WEST WEST SIDE MUSIC

KIM ROSEN - Staff Engineer

Tap dancing? Piano lessons? Drama? Remixing? Live sound? ... Ok, the sound thing wins. Good thing for us! Kim always keeps a keen ear towards great music, and we're glad she didn't choose piano. Hailing from Northampton Massachusetts (in the Western Berkshire Mountains) where many an indie band plays "The Iron Horse" or "U-Mass" or "Amherst College" etc., she spends too much time in local clubs getting to know the DJ's and meeting the local audio geeks. Some one knows some one who knows some one who needs an assistant... This could be great... so she checks it out... and lands an assistants job at a private studio (old veteran folkie... boring, but it's a job) where she can bring in her own projects on "downtime". It's a start. Records a lot of acoustic guitar, bongos, rain sticks and more acoustic guitars... Within the local talent she finds an artist that needs help with some finishing touches on his CD... Mastering... Nice.

A few more local projects (and more acoustic guitars) and she wants the big city... No time to waste. Asking around, she finds another studio in need of an assistant (WWSM), this time it's mastering... She learns production, some tricks and most importantly refines her listening skills. Kicking butt for other mastering engineers earns her the right to sit in on sessions. Kicking butt for clients earns her the rights to pursue her new found talents. Kicking butt pays off.

Life at West West Side Music means you have to be a Jack of at least a few trades. Kim takes on some video authoring and ECD projects as she "teams-up" with Dave in "Graphics". Years go by, more refinement in her listening abilities and audio mastering is still her passion. Skills are fine tuned. Playing second fiddle is fine for some, but Kim finds her own way through the crowd, and develops her own sense of mastering. Some things can be taught, but some just take experience. After a few years of building selected clients, West West Side Music proudly advances her to Staff Engineer. The Tap shoes haven't been worn in years.
