WEST WEST SIDE MUSIC

DAN COUTANT - Staff Engineer

Dan Coutant took a hard road to West West Side Music... First, as leader of the highly regarded post-hardcore combo "Joshua". With 3 well received CD’s for Doghouse Records, he toured through the US, Europe and Japan, as he shared the stage with bands such as "At The Drive In" and "The Get Up Kids". In 2003, Dan signed-on to super producer John Agnello’s record label, Baryon Records, as "Fireworks Go Up", however there was an insatiable need to be on the other side of the glass.

Using the education acquired from working alongside heroes such as Agnello and J Robbins, in 2004 Coutant opened Mad Notes Recording Studio in Washingtonville, NY. There he was determined to learn how to make a DAW sound like a tape reel, and ensure that the artist's and engineer's efforts were fully realized. The successful endeavor eventually lead to freelance producing and engineering as he was often called-in to mix projects he didn't record.

Having been a tracking and mixing engineer for many studios in the NY/NJ area (Nada, Stained Glass, The Buddy Project, etc.) he expanded his credits and affiliation to indie record labels as well (Eyeball Records, Equal Vision Records, Immortal Records, Doghouse Records, XOXO Records, Broken English Records, Parrot On A Porch Records)

With a passion to help bands make the most of their music, there's nothing Dan won't do, and it's this reason he's welcomed into the WWSM staff. Among Dan's daily duties, he's looking forward to consulting and helping projects during their recording and mixing stages, as he continues to develop and refine his skills in Mastering and Surround Mixing.

Now proud to be included in the WWSM staff, the Digi 001 days couldn’t seem more a thing of the past.
